Control structures can be divided into three categories:

  • Conditional Branches are a type of branch that can be used to choose between two or more pathways.
  • Loops are used to cycle over numerous values/objects and run specified code blocks repeatedly.
  • Branching Statements are used to change the control flow in loops.

When a programme is running, control flow or flow of control refers to the sequence in which instructions, statements, and function calls are executed or evaluated. In Java, statements in your code are usually executed in the order in which they appear, from top to bottom.

In Java, a control statement is a statement that determines whether or not other statements are performed. It is in charge of a program's flow. In Java, a 'if' statement specifies the order in which two statements are executed.
